We don’t have to think alike to belong together.
When we look for our soul in institutions instead of in one another, we lose our bearings. In America, we feel that loss everywhere.
duyukdvi (ᏚᏳᎪᏛᎢ) is a Cherokee concept rooted in truth, character, justice, and peaceful coexistence. Here, it becomes a lens for thinking about art, democracy, and how we live together.
After decades in advocacy, community relations and arts activism, my work is now research and writing.
In my writing, I will focus on the arts, civic life, power, and responsibility.
In my research, I will explore:
how we got here and what might still be possible.
how to measure leaders not by their political survival, but by whether or not they remember the faces of those they swore to serve.
how imagination itself can be a form of civic practice.
And I will undertake this venture with ᏚᏳᎪᏛᎢ.
Please accept my invitation to look again, with fresh eyes, less certainty, and more unity. Subscribe to my Substack. It’s free … and I make no financial appeals.
Thank you.
